At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in the year 1918, World War I officially came to an end. This day was initially called “Armistice Day.” In 1954, the day was officially renamed “Veterans Day”. It is a federal holiday.
Veterans Day honors all those who have served the country in war or peace—dead or alive-although it is mainly a time to thank living veterans for their sacrifices.
All of us should have a deep sense of gratitude and admiration for our veterans. The freedoms we enjoy have been sustained by the sacrifices of our veterans. The freedoms attained are symbolized in our American Flag. When we honor our veterans we also show reverence and respect for our flag.
St. Edmond will respectfully remove our old, tattered flag at the pole located in the front of the rectory. A new flag will be lifted up on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at 11:00 am. We invite all veterans to be present and we encourage our parishioners to be in attendance. Our Mass at 12:10 pm that day will be offered for all of our veterans.
To all of our veterans— THANK YOU FOR YOUR SACRIFICE, YOUR BRAVERY, AND THE EXAMPLE YOU SET FOR US ALL!!! HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!!
